Salvage

48" x 32" Acrylic on Canvas

I listened to the music and thought of how hard it was to speak once I had found my voice, like a child learning to walk, and then how hard it was to be silent after that, like a child who has learned to run and can no longer be still.

Salvage was painted on a damaged piece of canvas. I wanted to make beauty from imperfection, to see that broken things can still be beautiful, to know that the past can be overcome. Over the years, the crease that marred the surface of the painting has become barely visible, another metaphor for the healing that comes with time.
